This Friday June 2nd7:00-9:00 pmthere will be a "fun" 3 on 3 basketball tournament being held at Smithtown West H.S.
Cost is 10.00 per player, 4 players max per team. Open to all ages,
boys,girls,adults. All proceeds will go to Nick's fund.
I am writing to inform you about one of our former CYO
basketball players, his name is Nick Paquette. Nick played CYO
intramurals thru sixth grade, his father John was a volunteer coach.
Nick tried out for travel in 5th and 6th grade, did not make the teams,
but never gave up trying out. He made the 7th and 8th grade travel
teams and was instrumental in their success. His basketball skills
continuously improved due to his untiring efforts. He played at
Smithtown West JV as a freshman and Varsity for the next 3 years. After
graduation in 2015 he was recruited and chose to play basketball at SUNY
New Paltz. He is a starter on the team, has completed 2 seasons and is
determined to finish out his academic and bball career.
On Easter weekend just shy of his 20th birthday this past April, he woke
up and could not see out of one eye and had blurry vision in the other.
Doctors did not know what the problem was and advised that he needed to
get some blood work. The results of the blood work showed that he has
Leukemia. He is now going thru chemo treatment and the doctors are
looking at it with positive feelings of beating it. He is putting the
same strong effort towards beating it, with a positive attitude.
Although he began his treatment and was not able to finish his academic
year at school, he still was able to take his finals from home getting
great grades and completing his Sophmore academic year. He does not give
up.
